Andre Kamman is a SQL Server Solutions Architect for CloudDBA.nl, and he is based in the Netherlands. Working with SQL Server since version 6.5, he sometimes thinks that he has memorized Books Online by now and can do his work on autopilot. But, usually even before his first cup of coffee, something strange happens and he finds himself searching for clues on Google. Besides being a co-founder and current chairman of the Dutch PASS chapter, Andre is also a SQL Server MVP.

The most mundane task of the DBA that we all thought we could do with our eyes closed has become complicated again. There is no single, simple backup/restore (or import/export) story for on-premises databases, databases in SQL Server on an Azure VM and Azure SQL Databases. In this session we will look at the various ways to archive and move databases around with the Azure (hybrid) cloud. Learn how to: - Move data between SQL Server and Azure SQL Database. - Move data between your datacenter and Azure. - Create backups for long term storage to comply with your corporate data retention policy. - Create (automated) database copies for your developers. We will discuss the various options and their respective pros and cons. This session will restore (pun intended) your confidence in your backup/restore skills.
